John’s love of everything boats began with family summers on Lake Erie in Ontario. He started “messing about” in his early years, and developed a lifelong affinity for both power and sail.
Following his graduation from Trinity College (where he captained the sailing team) with a Bachelors in Economics and a concentration in Philosophy, John promptly moved to Essex, CT and became a Yacht Broker and Brokerage Manager with Northrop and Johnson. John also worked for Eastland Yachts in Essex, and later was co-owner of Pilot Yacht Sales in Charleston, SC.
In his non-boating career, John was a management consultant with Price Waterhouse in NYC, a specialist in foreign exchange products with Citibank, Thomas Cook Financial Services and Travelex, and the President and CEO of a boutique securities firm specializing in energy investments.
But John’s long-time desire to return to the marine industry finally led him back where he belongs, in the Stonington office of ECYS.
John brings a wealth of knowledge of both power and sail, and broad experience both inshore and offshore, racing and cruising. He has participated in major racing events including several Block Island and Key West race weeks, and the NYYC cruise, to name a few. He has made trips up and down the East coast from Maine to Florida, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Bermuda. At age 25, John spent a year on a single-handed sailing voyage from CT to the Exumas and back. Currently he and his wife Laura enjoy zipping around in their Hinckley Picnic Boat with family and friends onboard..
Coupling John’s lifetime in boats with his customer-focused business acumen is an ideal formula for helping clients both buy and sell their yacht with complete satisfaction. John brings forth a passion for boats, people and business that we are sure you will find both enjoyable and effective.
