Overview

SWEETIE is a unique example of this exceptional performing Ray Hunt design, known for their sea keeping and sea kindly characteristics.  Her original owner’s mandate was to create the fastest but quietest Eastbay 49 ever built.  With a reported $100,000 spent on soundproofing to achieve 74 db at cruise, his relentless attention to details during construction and the many custom changes made from upgraded air conditioning to bow and stern thruster and so much more, it is hard to argue he wasn’t successful.

Accomodations

SWEETIE is the SX or Saloon Express version of the very popular Eastbay 49.  She offers a two-stateroom arrangement with the galley down and a large settee (big enough to be a single berth) opposite with Hi/Lo table for dining.  Her two head arrangement is unique in that the shower has been configured such that it is shared with the guest head.  This enables a larger master head and the elimination of any wet heads on the boat.

The interior joinery is high quality varnished teak with a teak and holley sole throughout.  All interior hardware – hinges, door handles, drawer pulls, light fixtures etc. – are chrome to minimize maintenance.  As part of the sound abatement efforts, the main saloon sole has no penetrations into the engine room.  There is lots of natural ventilation with opening ports, overhead hatches (all with OceanAire shade & screen combination), side opening windows in the main saloon, side door at the helm and solar vents provide natural ventilation when the boat is closed up.  Air conditioning has been upgrade with 2 16,000 btu units dedicated to the main saloon.  The side opening windows, helm side door and aft door all have retractable roller screens.  Side and aft main saloon windows have custom blinds.  Double Stidd helm and passenger seats are powered for fore/aft and up/down movement.

Master Stateroom

Located forward with centerline island berth, two drawer storage beneath, flanked by reading lights on the bulkhead at the berth head and nightstand/bureaus on either side.  Additional storage found in outboard cupboards and full length cedar lined hanging lockers aft, port & starboard.

Direct entry to the ensuite Head is aft to port with a SeaLand VacuFlush freshwater head. The separate stall shower is aft to starboard and is shared with the guest head.  Two large storage cabinets are outboard of the custom Corian countertop with molded in sink.  An opening port and overhead hatch provide the ventilation.

Guest Stateroom

Located to port with two awthartship berths, with drawers beneath and louvered door cedar lined hanging locker between. A mirror is on the aft bulkhead and 12 volt fans, switched at the berths, are placed in the upper corners for ventilation.  There is an overhead hatch and opening ports.

The Guest Head is across the passageway to starboard and has s separate stall shower. Counters are Corian and the toilet is a freshwater VacuFlush.

Galley

U shaped to port, opening inboard, opposite the lower U shaped dinette/settee with Hi/Lo dining table.  The galley is notable for its very generous storage capacity.

  • Abalone Corian counters with teak fiddles
  • Cabinets above, drawer and cabinet storage beneath
  • Large double stainless sink in a single unit
  • Large trash bin beneath sink
  • Grohe single lever faucet for pressure hot and cold water
  • Mug/spice rack above counter
  • Princess 3 burner electric cooktop outboard w/safety switch
  • Sharp Carousel microwave convection oven beneath cooktop
  • Large top opening storage lockers outboard forward & aft corners
  • Pantry at inboard galley end in lieu of liquor locker
  • Front opening teak door SubZero 245 refrigerator/freezer beneath aft counter
  • Front opening teak door SubZero 24R freezer w/icemaker beneath aft counter

Saloon

Up 3 steps from the galley or in through the aft cockpit or starboard side helm door, is the Main Saloon and Helm station.  Optional powered double Stidd seats are located for helm and passenger.  Electronics have been thoughtfully located throughout the helm area both in the teak console at the helm and above. There are a number of purpose specific separate breaker panels and other electronics located above for easy viewing and use.

Aft to Port is a large U-shaped settee with storage below and a powered teak high/low table dinning/coffee table with folding leaves.  Opposite to starboard is a barrel chair next to a large bureau.  Forward to port is a nav station with custom built drawers beneath.

Cockpit

Easily accessed by teak steps from the port and starboard sidedecks or through the transom door from the swim platform.  Forward is an aft facing bench seat.  A swing up door opens to the engine room for easy access and there is hatch access to lazarette for storage.  Hot and cold shower, shoreside water inlet on aft bulkhead and TV/Cable inlet, additional shore power inlet, and a Glendinning Cablemaster shore cord.  A half bimini covers the forward end of the cockpit for shade protection.
