Overview

USA 135: Modified Melges 32  //  'Oh Carol' race ready. Her rig has been modified to accommodate a flat top main with running backstays- and could be easily moved back to One Design status. The Melges 32 is known for her ability to plane downwind in even modest winds. She's a simple design that is highly tunable.

Her road ready trailer allows easy transport to any major regatta and ease of off-season storage. A robust sail inventory comes with this fast and fun boat. She has been a PHRF killer in the GMORA fleet and does well in a variety of sea conditions.

Descriptions

The Melges 32 is produced by Melges Performance Sailboats and went into production in 2005. She's rigged with a retractable bowsprit to fly a large asymmetrical spinnaker downwind. Her hull is make of fiberglass while the mast, rubber, bowsprit and keel fin are made of carbon fiber for light weight performance. The keel fin and bulb can retract up to the hull bottom to make her easily trailerable.

She's generally races with five or more crew and preforms best at her max One Design crew weight of 629kg total. The Melges 32 is an internationally recognized ISAF (international sailing federation) class with seriously competitive fleets in Europe, North America and Australia.

Class History from Harken: "The Melges 32 is the next generation of fast and exciting sport boats from Melges Performance Sailboats. Following the same successful path of the Melges 24, the 32 is easy to trailer, rig and launch. “We wanted the boats to be race-ready right from the factory, a “just add water” approach to the racing market,” says Andy Burdick, Vice President of Melges Performance Sailboats. The Melges 32 has expanded into Europe and is swiftly becoming one of the hottest One-Designs in the world."
