From Annapolis to Portland in Under 2 Days: The Targa 37 Delivers Speed and Confidence
At East Coast Yacht Sales, we don’t just sell boats — we believe in them. And sometimes, the best way to prove a boat’s capability is to put it to the test. In this video, ECYS broker Kris Grimnes joins Jim, the proud new owner of a Targa 37, on a bold delivery journey: 700+ nautical miles in under two days aboard one of the most seaworthy boats in its class.
What makes this trip so special? It’s not just about the miles — it’s about what the boat, and the people aboard it, proved along the way.
Why Jim Chose a Targa 37
Jim is no stranger to boating. He’s owned several boats over the years, each suited to a different phase of his life and cruising preferences. But when it came time to choose his next vessel, he had a very clear set of priorities: safety, comfort, performance, and a rugged build that could handle the unpredictable waters of the East Coast.
Built in Finland by Botnia Marin, the Targa line is often referred to as the “4×4 of the sea.” With their pilothouse-style layout, deep walkaround decks, and commercial-grade construction, Targas are made for real-world conditions. For Jim, the appeal was clear — especially after sea trials and walkthroughs with the East Coast Yacht Sales team.
In his own words: “Once I saw the build quality and the way she handled, I knew this was the right boat.”
From Maine to Maryland — The Journey
After taking delivery of his new Targa 37, Jim and Kris set out on an ambitious delivery cruise: a two-day, 700+ nautical mile trip from Maine to Maryland. The goal? Bring the boat to her new home port — and see exactly what she could handle along the way.
Throughout the journey, the Targa 37 performed flawlessly. Conditions varied from flat calm to sporty seas, and the boat’s sharp hull, strong structure, and enclosed pilothouse made every mile more comfortable than expected. Jim was able to cruise confidently, maintain impressive speeds, and enjoy full visibility and control thanks to the thoughtful layout of the helm.
Even after hours at the helm, fatigue was minimal — a testament to the ergonomics and ride quality of the Targa platform.
Inside the Targa 37: Features that Matter
The Targa 37 isn’t about flashy extras — it’s about purpose-driven design that works in real-world conditions. Here are a few highlights that stood out during the journey:
-
Walkaround Safety: Deep side decks with high rails made moving around the boat safe and secure, even underway.
-
Pilothouse Comfort: The fully enclosed helm station offered visibility, protection from the elements, and access to all controls.
-
Sturdy Build: From the quiet ride to how the boat handled in tight marinas, it was clear this was a boat built for confident handling.
-
Efficient Performance: With twin outboards and optimized hull design, fuel economy remained strong even at cruising speeds.
A Boat That Builds Confidence
One of the most telling parts of the video is how confident Jim becomes as the trip progresses. He’s clearly thrilled — not just because the boat is performing well, but because it’s reaffirming the decision he made months earlier when placing the order.
By the end of the trip, it’s clear that the Targa 37 isn’t just a boat he bought — it’s a boat he trusts.
