Let’s face it, if we love boats, there was something in our lives that relentlessly pulled us in…..for me it was learning to sail in a Carib canoe while living on the windward coast of Martinique in the sixties…then the hook was set with some competitive sailing in college, and racing and cruising on the Maine coast. I have built and repaired boats, managed a boatyard, captained commercial sight-seeing vessels, and done some offshore sailing, ditch-crawling and as much gunk-holing as possible. It seems that a life-long love of boats is now well moored!
I had been the general manager of a Maine boatyard, and was involved with house- and boat-building, when a chance to sell the house and do some cruising came along…. As a family with very young boys, we bought an old Grand Banks, and in our snow-birding, managed to land in Florida. I spent seventeen years with Grand Bank’s dealers, selling new and brokerage boats of all kinds and sizes. But that love of New England was still there….When the opportunity to join ECYS knocked…. I answered!
I am now happily anchored in Rhode Island, enjoying the waterfront life of Newport, Narragansett Bay and all the wonders that New England has to offer. I particularly enjoy getting out on the water with clients and friends, whether for a sea trial, a survey, or the delivery of a new boat. And that cruise back up to Maine is always beckoning…..
