Description
Sabre 402 EGRET provides comfortable accommodations for two to seven. Perfect for cruising or racing owners, the 402 is renowned for its exceptional sailing performance, yet is easily sailed by a couple.
EGRET belies her age with pristine house and decks, gleaming hull, and newer electronics. Professional preventative maintenance of sails, rigging and entire vessel is completed annually and EGRET is winter-stored inside each year.
An unusually fine example of this revered model, EGRET features a stunning Stars and Stripes Blue Awlgripped hull (2018-2019). In 2009, Sabre Yachts undertook complete factory replacement of the house and decks, removing the original which had developed extensive gelcoat crazing. As a result, EGRET is a model 2000 boat with 2009 house and decks, built and installed to the later Sabre standard. Electronics were upgraded in 2019.
An on-land marine survey was completed at the request of the Owner in March, 2021, prior to EGRET being offered for sale. This confirms that EGRET may be considered in excellent condition. The survey may be made available, upon request, to serious, qualified buyers.
First launched in 1996, the Sabre 402 has been a huge success in the market place, winning Cruising World's "Mid-Sized Cruiser" and "Overall Boat of the Year" awards in 1997. Subsequently, Sabre Yachts built 112 Sabre 402s over eight years. EGRET is a prime example of this acclaimed design.

Accomodation
The Main Salon is very open and impressive and takes full advantage of the 402's beam of 13-feet 4-inches. Comfortable settees are port and starboard, with the port side convertible to a double berth. An elegant yacht table, with folding leaves, will comfortably seat six at meal time, and is located on the centerline. Storage lockers above the berth backs provide ample space for stowage.
Aft and to starboard is the forward-facing Navigator's Table, which has all of the space required for a sophisticated electronics system. There is a 110V GFCI outlet, AC/DC breaker panel, fuel and holding tank gauges, an ICOM IC-504 VHF marine radio and a Sony Marine CD Receiver - MEXM 71BT AM/FM Bluetooth w/RM-X-231 Remote Control. The navigator's seat also serves as a place for socializing with the cook when meals are being prepared in the galley to port.
To starboard and aft of the nav station are the Head and Shower. Molded in fiberglass, this easily maintained unit incorporates a marine head, a sink recessed in the countertop, and lots of dry storage in the lockers outboard. A separate Shower Stall with teak seat is located aft of the head. This compartment has a door providing direct access to the aft cabin.
The 50 horsepower Yanmar auxiliary Engine is located underneath the galley on the centerline. Access to the engine is superb for servicing from all sides. Keeping this engine weight plus the weight of all tankage in the middle of the hull adds greatly to the sea kindliness and comfort of the 402.
The U-shaped Galley to port has ample counter space for preparing the most elaborate meal or the simplest fare. Conveniently located for ease of use are the Sea Frost engine-driven refrigeration (both top and front loading), the double Skandvik stainless sink with mixing faucet and the three-burner Force 10 propane stove with oven and broiler.
The Aft Cabin features a large berth with storage spaces and drawers underneath. The berth's occupants can recline with open spaces overhead - unlike the aft cabins of many boats of this type. Outboard of the berth is a long shelf with lockers, a set of drawers, and a large hanging locker. At the forward end of the cabin on centerline is a convenient magazine/book rack. There is also direct access to the shower stall.
In the Forward Cabin, the Sabre 402's hull volume comfortably offers a large double berth surrounded by hanging lockers, storage lockers, and ample shelving; also in the forward cabin is a Vanity with Corian counter, sink, and mirror. There is additional storage under the berth.
Sabre Yachts' trademarks of satin varnished cherry cabinetry, ash ceilings and teak and holly cabin sole are throughout the interior.
Exterior, starting at the bow: The custom cast anchor roller is designed to easily accommodate two anchors. Aft of the stem is the large chain locker, above which also houses the anchor windlass at deck level. Moving aft, there are six small and two large deck hatches which allow plenty of light and air to fill the 402's interior.
Along the sides of the deck house are eight stainless steel opening ports with pleated shades and two large fixed ports. Two chrome dorades allow circulation of the interior air. Double life lines with stainless steel stanchions allow easy side deck access. There are also two opening side gates.
The AwIgrip-finished, Triple Spreader Rig, with aft swept spreaders and rod rigging, is the source of power which drives the performance of the Sabre 402. This mast section was chosen for its light weight and strength.
The Sabre 402's Genoa Tracks, including a lead car control system, are placed well inboard for close sheeting angles and superb weather sailing performance. The 402 has a second set of genoa tracks on the wooden toe rail for use off the wind, or when conditions require a more wide open slot between genoa and mainsail.
The Cockpit is designed for maximum comfort and security at sea. Unlike many other 40 footers where "picnic" tables have become the most important feature of the cockpit, the crew of the Sabre 402 can always find a place to brace their feet on the face of the seat on the low side. A varnished teak cockpit table with folding leaves and a deep locker under the starboard cockpit seat.
The Bridge Deck at the forward end of the cockpit serves several purposes: it keeps the interior dry and provides a well-sheltered seat, when used with a dodger, if the weather is poor. It also allows standing headroom in the passageway from the head to the aft cabin.

Rob grew up on the coast of Maine where he began sailing at the age of 8 through a local yacht club program. He learned many important lessons about teamwork in those early days of sailing turnabouts and 420âs. Later he would become an instructor with that same program teaching kids and adults the joys of day sailing and racing. After graduating from college in 2002 he then moved to Annapolis Maryland and began his career as a yacht broker specializing in the sale of blue water trawlers and sailboats.
Upon his return to Maine in 2013 he opened a satellite office for a brokerage based in Newport at Handy Boat Service in Falmouth. Here he oversaw the sale of both new and used boats with an emphasis on cruising sailboats. In 2017 Rob joined the team at East Coast Yacht Sales in their Yarmouth office where he continues to develop and hone his abilities to coordinate custom boat builds and facilitate smooth transactions for both buyers and sellers on the brokerage market.Â
