The X-412 is a large sailboat designed by the maritime architect Niels Jeppesen in the early nineties. A few hundred boats have been produced. The X-412 is built by the Danish yard X-Yachts A/S.
The hull is made of fiberglass. Generally, a hull made of fiberglass requires only a minimum of maintenance during the sailing season. The hull is a double hull which improves the indoor climate. Especially when the water is colder than the air in the cabin, then the double hull insulates against cold water and reduces the condensation water in the cabin.
The interior is like most other boats made of teak. The boat has 3 cabins, 6 berths, 1 work room, a galley, and a toilet facility.
No wood/varnish is to be maintained on the outside of the boat
The boat is equipped with a masthead rig. The advantage of a masthead rig is its simplicity and the fact that a given sail area - compared with a fractional rig - can be carried lower and thus with less heeling moment.
The boat can only enter major marinas as the draft is about 7 ft dependent on the load.

The X-412 is X-Yachts' bid for the complete cruiser-racer in the 40- to 45-foot class. Speed, ease of handling, and unsurpassable accommodations were the key concepts during the development of this elegant yacht. A classic example of the experience X-Yachts has gained from countless races around the world, this yacht satisfies all demands, whether the requirement be family sailing or racing. Weight distribution, scantlings, the layout of halyards and winches, everything is harmoniously combined, giving a functional, easy-to-handle yacht. The interior ceiling is a completely new inner lining, with small, built-in spot lamps in the silk-mat surfacing. Luxurious woods and textiles are used throughout. The port side includes a functional galley with ample table space, a propane stove, a cooler box, two sinks with pressurized water, and several easily accessible cupboards. There is space for six to eight people in the molded sofas around the oval table. The X-412 has a single double cabin aft and one double forward cabin. There are closets with clothes hangers and shelves in all cabins. On the foredeck, ringdeck, and in the cockpit, there is ample space, so the yacht is both comfortable and safe, whether at sea or in the harbor. The cockpit lockers can be held open with small levers, while the aftermost locker also serves as an integrated helmsman's seat, giving good balance even while heeled. A bathing platform is discreetly built into the transom, so the X-412 can retain its elegance, seen from behind. Each piece of equipment is chosen from the most respected manufacturers in an attempt to ensure years of trouble-free sailing and enjoyment.

X-412 Specifications - Standard Equipment Construction - CE-Certification - The X-412 has been built in accordance with the European CE-Certification and meets the requirements of the CE directive 94-25-CE for recreational crafts - These rules require a certain minimum standard of hull and deck strength, structural bulkheads and stringer, keel and rudder and their attachment to the hull, safety and stability, engine installation, sea cocks, manuals and documentation of all major installations Hull - Deck & Hull - Deck Joint - Hull as well as deck are in hand laid E-glass reinforced on special high-stress areas with triaxial fiberglass in connection with a sandwich laminate using hard compressed Divinycell 20 mm as core material - Solid laminated around the keel reinforcement girder system, the engine install, the propeller, the rudder bearings as well as in connection with all through-hull fittings - Hull surface outside is made of white gelcoat with 3 blue waterlines & sheer line molded into the freeboard - Tim Kohl has spent most of his life on the water. As a youth he grew up fishing the waters of the St Lawrence River. In high school he worked for a master marine carpenter doing wood repairs and caught the bug to go sailing.
A degree from Rochester Institute of Technology in Printing Management served him well in his early career as a manager. From there, he ran printing plants. Then moving into the high tech imaging equipment sales and custom software solutions to national accounts like General Dynamics Marine, Honda, Bombardier and UTC.
Thirty years ago he was exposed to salt water sailing and fishing and never looked back.
A USCG Captain’s license and over 720 documented days at sea have allowed him exposure to great adventures offshore and around the buoys. His passion is to be at sea; racing sail boats, around the buoys and off shore, and offshore fishing.
A sailing racer for over 25 years, he has sailed in Newport, Long Island Sound, Maine, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, Key West, Charleston, and Annapolis. During that time he has crewed in numerous J 105 and J 109 North American championships with two firsts and two seconds overall.
